Since spring all of my runs have been in the morning, the earlier I can drag myself out of bed the better in order to avoid boiling in South Georgia heat and humidity. When I stepped out of my office, 30′ from my house, and walked in, it felt really nice out, especially in the shade plus we had a breeze, possibly due to hurricane Irene passing by
Today was just one of those days you wish never happened. I didn’t really want to get out of the bed even though I got plenty of sleep last night. Then when I finally got out of bed I was slow to get ready and out the door. The body didn’t feel right, the head wasn’t where it should be, nothing was clicking at all today. Read more
This week is my pullback week. I was used to them happening every 4th week during my buildup phase but they seem more sporadic now, I guess because of the long runs being so much longer and needing more time in between to recover. So I didn’t worry about food or hydration on the run, I just had some water before and headed out. Read more
Saturdays are always my short run and forever they’ve been 4 milers, not sure why all of a sudden there are a few 5milers in there but here one is. I didn’t get out of the house as early as I like but it wasn’t too hot yet, seems like the heat/humidity has eased just a touch, though I try to be done before the sun is beating down on my. Today’s run went pretty well, there really isn’t much to say about it. I put in 8 miles, I drank a bottle of Powerade, toes were fine, didn’t see anything or anyone out of the ordinary except for the lady in red * and her kids. Read more
Since I was out of town this past weekend camping and did a short run Saturday up and down some of the north Georgia hills, plus a few other reasons, I didn’t do my Sunday long run on Sunday but delayed it until Monday. Let me tell you had a really hard time getting out of bed to go run 18 miles, on a work day. Fortunately I woke before the alarm went off so I had lots of time, I knew it was going to take me over 3 hours but I needed to work, again I’m thankful to have a job that doesn’t require me to clock in and out at specific times. This weekend I was camping with my company, we usually do 2 trips a year to get together, do some team building activity, and basically have a corporate retreat type get together in the woods. This time my boss picked an August trip because we usually go in February and November and its been pretty cold the last few so a few were complaining that we needed to try something warmer. I on the other hand was concerned being a Georgia boy born and bred, that we would be stewing in our own juices all weekend in the woods swatting bugs of some sort. Fortunately it didn’t turn out that way, I was shocked that we had no weather or pest problems. Read more
Today’s 6 miler was a welcome one. The temp was a few degrees lower than it’s been in a while, bad when 75 seems “cool” but it was a noticeable difference. I know I’ve seen calculations of time predictions and seems like they all start raising you per minute times for every 5 degrees above 60 I think and today’s run met that almost exactly, my times dropped about 30 seconds/mile. Today was what running is all about, I smoked my 16 mile long run, hoo yah! Well, smoked might be a stretch but for a newbie, yeah, I’m sticking with it. With last week’s big 14 fail fresh in my mind but a pep talk and slight restructure of my training from Lydia at Fleet Feet CREW training, a little thought into what I need to do to accomplish another long run without problems, and probably some extra rest, again thanks to Lydia, I not only finished the run, but basically have no pain or stiffness at all now 12 hours after the run.
