I finally did it. A long time bucket list item has now been checked off the list, I ran a marathon. Since I was a teenager I always wanted to do a triathlon and a marathon so this goal has been a long time coming. I’m not even sure why I had this desire, I never liked running alone until this past year, even last year the slipshod training I thought I was doing for those few 5ks was mind numbingly excruciating. Having a goal and a plan I think was the key! Read more

This is it, the last run before the big race. I’ve done all the training I can do before Saturday. Not to say I couldn’t have done more, I’ve missed some runs, I’ve missed some runs recently even. I’ve justified it by thinking that its better to have missed those particular runs and be healthy but “less ready” than to have attempted them and risked injury. But tonight I finished my last 4 miles on a night run, feeling good, with the moon shining down lighting the roads. Read more

In our household October means EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, at least for the adults, it’s one of our most looked forward to trips all year and has been for 9 years now. Even though we had just been down 3 weeks prior for #EpicOctober and Wine and Dine Half Marathon, I never even made it to EPCOT to try even one dish or glass of wine. Read more

Here is Kellie doing the WIN News for school recently. She’s in 2 parts, once in the beginning doing the Pledge of Allegiance and singing You’re a Grand Old Flag, then later at around 5:45 doing a news story about the upcoming Book Fair.

I did it, today I made it through a 20 mile long run and I did it in Vibram Fivefinger Bikilas. 8 months ago as I was slogging my fat gut over the Savannah River on the Bridge run I never would have thought in a million years that I would be able to run 20 miles at one time but here I am. According to my training plan, as modified by Lydia at Fleet Feet, 20 miles is the longest training run I will do prior to the Rock and Roll Marathon in November. Thats not to say that it was great, perfect, or even anywhere near the best run, there were a few issues along the way but I still made it to the end with a very respectable time I think and only room for improvement. What an awesome run, they should all feel like this. I woke up early, especially for not going to bed til midnight, but laid in the bed reading the iPad for an hour or so until I finally decided that I had to get out of the cozy, warm bed and go run. With only a 4 miler I didn’t bother eating or anything, just headed out with music to fuel me.  Read more

Since spring all of my runs have been in the morning, the earlier I can drag myself out of bed the better in order to avoid boiling in South Georgia heat and humidity. When I stepped out of my office, 30′ from my house, and walked in, it felt really nice out, especially in the shade plus we had a breeze, possibly due to hurricane Irene passing by

Today was just one of those days you wish never happened. I didn’t really want to get out of the bed even though I got plenty of sleep last night. Then when I finally got out of bed I was slow to get ready and out the door. The body didn’t feel right, the head wasn’t where it should be, nothing was clicking at all today. Read more

This week is my pullback week. I was used to them happening every 4th week during my buildup phase but they seem more sporadic now, I guess because of the long runs being so much longer and needing more time in between to recover. So I didn’t worry about food or hydration on the run, I just had some water before and headed out. Read more

Saturdays are always my short run and forever they’ve been 4 milers, not sure why all of a sudden there are a few 5milers in there but here one is. I didn’t get out of the house as early as I like but it wasn’t too hot yet, seems like the heat/humidity has eased just a touch, though I try to be done before the sun is beating down on my. Read more
