Christmas in Disney

One of the best times to visit Disney is during the holidays because they really go ALL OUT with decorations there, every little thing gets the full Disney treatment. We’ve been before at Thanksgiving a few times as well as early December, but this year we figured out a way to go the week of/before Christmas. There are many “must see’s too; Main Street at Magic Kingdom, the gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian, the Wilderness Lodge Lobby, and tree lighting at EPCOT are just a few. But the one must see has got to be the Osborne Family Lights at Hollywood Studios. We’ve been before several years ago before Lights, Motors, Action when the old Residential Street still existed and that was what got decorated, but since it was removed, they now decorate the Streets of America. We actually went in between years, the one year they didn’t have it at all which was sad to miss because we hadn’t been back at Christmas since whenever that was. After the difficult year we had it was good to get away and not think about work, shopping, and those that we had lost this year. The oldest girls had gone off skiing and Kriss’ mom Linda was able to get off from work at Cracker Barrel so just the four of us went from  December 19-23.  We decided that other than to enjoy time away from all of it, there was absolutely nothing that we had to do. We made no dinner reservations, no plans to be at certain parks at certain times. My only requirement was to go see the Osborne Lights at Hollywood Studios, and get peppermint bark from Ghirardellis.

Kellie, Kriss, and Linda at Disney for Christmas

Kellie, Kriss, and Linda at Disney's Old Key West for Christmas

We stayed in a 1 bedroom at Old Key West so we would have plenty of room. We took 1 present for everyone and Linda even brought a table top tree that we kept on the whole time and put our presents under.

The lights of course were wonderful, hard to believe just how many little lights they put on all of those buildings and in the air. The street was packed shoulder to shoulder in some places as people moved through with their head craned upward and their mouths open looking at it all. Earlier in the day we had spent a lot of time listening to Mulch, Sweat, and Tears play on a big stage in front of the hat. They usually play on the Streets of America but were displaced because of the Osborne Lights. They always play good rock but on the big stage I think they hammed it up a little more than usual walking out into the crowd and “harassing” people trying to get them to sing or do something.

We even spent a day and did the Winter Summerland Mini Golf. Kriss and I had played it years ago when we had some discount tickets but the weather was great one day this trip and we felt like playing so we all went and had a ball. I would recommend this to anyone that feels like taking a break from the parks and just chilling for a little while.

Really not a lot more to blog about this trip though. We did all the usual things like see the Spectromagic at Magic Kingdom and spend some time there, but this trip was really all about just getting away from it all, which is something we don’t usually do completely in Disney.
