More fun at Tybee for St Patrick’s parade
Again we took a trip to beautiful Tybee Island for another parade, this time St Patrick’s day. Tybee held it’s parade on the Saturday before the big Savannah parade and we again had kids on hand and an extra one to boot in Courtney, Alyssa’s friend, so we loaded up and trekked to the island hoping for another fun day. It was gray and cooler this time, as opposed to the beautiful day we had in February for Mardi Gras, so we decided to get back off the beach breeze a little and stood on Tybrisa this time.We saw a lot of the same floats from Mardi Gras made over in green but a lot of new ones were here too like the addition of all of the Alee Shriners units. There were plenty of candy and bead throwers too, all of the kids were covered in bead necklaces to the point they didn’t know what to do with them all. We also met up with some friends, Jeremiah, Tony, Rona, and Chris that had come to town for the long weekend. Dad, Lynn, Hollie, Chad, and Hayden came down to enjoy the parade too.
There was no band playing this time though so after the parade we all met up for some pizza, we took up half of Cousin Vinnies, which by the way has some of THE best pizza you’ll ever eat, awesome crust. I don’t even know how long we were there, at least two hours. It was getting close to get back to the car because of the parking meters so we headed back down the other side of Butler past Stingrays where the Alee Shriner Oriental Band had parked their big boat float Cleopatra. We stopped near it and saw a few milling around when one yelled to the others to get their horns they were going to play a song. So they were all milling around gathering their “instruments” when one with a gong came over and let the kids (and Kriss,) bang it. We all yelled for them to play Freebird but they chose some other song that amazingly sounds like the one they play in every parade. We hung out there for a while in front of a closed bike shop but the new owners were there and somehow ended up inside having an impromptu spelling bee with the bike shop owners and our kids. After this it was past 7:00PM so we loaded up and headed back in to town after the long day. Another fun day at Tybee and now looking forward to the Beach Bum Parade in May.
