An open letter to a thief!
I have been wanting to write this post for a week now but needed to wait until this past weekend was over. Last week Kriss noticed some charges on our credit card statement that she didn’t recognize including one large one that came through for an airline ticket. She called the particular airline but since her name wasn’t on the reservation they wouldn’t tell her anything. She also called the bank and spoke to the fraud department and reported the transactions in question, cancelled the cards, and we went to the bank and changed accounts. I then called the airline and they did talk to me and tell me that “I” had booked, so the person not only had my card number but my name, a round trip flight on the for the 21st going to Boston from the Dominican Republic! Unfortunately this was neither an airline I use, a country I was in, nor a phone call I ever made. They said they would put some sort of hold on it and report it to their fraud department, fortunately you have to give a name and show an ID to get on the plane now, and they would try to nab this person at the gate. I think it would have been far cooler if they had let them get to Boston, on American soil, and then lock your butt up so that our justice system could deal with you and I could even press charges on top of what the bank and airlines will do since the bank even recommended me to file it with my local authorities.
How stupid is it to steal a credit card number then book a flight for a week later knowing the charges will show up online and that you had to use your name you have an ID for AND show up in person. So I hope right now there is a Dominican sitting in a jail somewhere giving second thoughts to their stupidity, I only wish I knew where you were so I could come “thank” you personally. I also hope you squeal like a pig on who actually got my card because you are obviously too dumb to do such a thing on your own. AMF!
